Customer Review

Best Customer Review : I searched for quite a while before I decided to purchase this Denon Receiver. I'm not an expert by any means and was very nervous about purchasing the right product. I easily found a lot of reviews for Denon and this specific receiver and it seemed like the right choice, so I jump in.

While I waited for it to arrive, I discovered that you can download the manuals for all of Denon's Receivers online at their website - [...]. That was a nice discovery as it allowed me the opportunity to review how to set it up before it arrived and let me look at the connections and side notes. In looking at the reviews, most complaints about Denon had to do with the manual and remote controls.

When the unit arrived it was well packaged and delivered as promised by the supplier via Amazon.com. It is very heavy! I was quite surprised, but there is a lot under the hood of this machine as I'm being told.

The set-up was almost too easy in regards to wiring. In the end, I removed a bunch of wires from underneath my entertainment unit that I no longer needed. That was a pleasant surprise. I did have a slight problem with hooking up the speakers, but that was from being a novice and I did get it corrected fairly quickly.

Once I turned it on, it took some time to figure out the remote. Again, I did see a lot of complaints regarding Denon's remotes in the posts that I read. I actually found it to be easy overall once there was a little time spent with it. I agree that it could be more enhanced to match the receiver sophistication.

The 4308CI is a Network Streaming and WiFi unit. This is the area where I've had the most difficulty. I went to this level and expense because of these features and the multi zone capabilities. The manual leaves you guessing quite a bit in getting this all set up and working properly. I wanted to be able to stream music from my computer onto my stereo system. They recommend an online service called [...] in which to make this happen along with Windows Media Player. Talk about a joke in regards to explaining how to make this happen. I was extremely frustrated and spent a lot of time trying to figure out what to do. In the end, I got the internet radio services working, but I was unable to get my music off my computer to work through the system.

I have a Mac Book Pro with a Windows environment which is where I tried to get the Media Player and Twonky working properly. In the end, my goals were not being reached. I wanted my iTunes to be able to play on my system along with my LaLa.com playlists.

I have good news, it can be done and no one will tell you how unless you do a lot of researching. Make your life simple and get the Apple Airport Express. This little items costs around 0. You connect it to the back of the unit (I used the VCR/iPod connection ports). You then download the software, select the device on your computer, open iTunes and viola!! If you are familiar with [...], purchase the MP3's in your playlists and they will download into iTunes and you can then stream your music from there too. I'm happy as a bug now and listening to incredible tunes on an incredible system!!!

I want to mention that I purchased the Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 800 Speaker System (5.1). These speakers sound awesome with the Denon Receiver and I'd highly recommend them.

Customer Review 2 : Excellent Product But....a little patience required - Huey K. Huynh - Rancho Santa Fe, CA USA
If you want an excellent AV with all the bells and whistle, buy this Denon. However, be prepared to have a lot of patience w/ its user manual. Read it once....or twice. And if you're still foggy as to what it's really saying, then try this: [...]. This is a "Please....Speak English" kind of manual specifically written for Denon AV. I used it to get the best out of my unit. By the way, try to team this up w/ the Denon DVD-3800BDCI blu ray (currently for sale @539 vs. 99 MSRP). It's the best combo system for under 2K.
